PENSACOLA, FL — A Filipino family has returned to their home, after fleeing from a wildfire that ravaged their neighborhood.
Paul Garilao and his family felt it was safe to return home after firefighters fully contained the 70-acre fire by Tuesday afternoon. The fire began Monday afternoon in a wooded area near the Weatherstone neighborhood, off of Gulf Beach highway.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The fire threatened about 20 homes, but no homes were damaged or destroyed.
“This is the area where the wildfire happened,” said Garilao. Our area is already safe. We went back to our house. Thank God, nothing was damaged in our house.”
But Garilao is still concerned about health risks following the fire. He said his two children vomited when they inhaled some smoke.
