Filipino family homeless after SUV crashes into home

HAINESVILLE, Ill. – A car struck a townhome, broke a gas line, and burst into flames early Friday morning leaving a Filipino family homeless.

Authorities say an SUV was traveling southbound on Hainesville Road at 4 a.m. when it veered into the northbound lanes. The vehicle drove over a large sign and accelerated another 500 feet, before ramming into the Racho family’s townhouse.

Leika Racho got her family to safety. Her husband was at work when the crash happened.

Authorities say the driver of the SUV is under police guard at a hospital, where he was being treated.

Police have not confirmed whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Criminal charges have not yet been filed.
