Filipino family flees neighborhood ravaged by fire in Florida

A Filipino family were among those who evacuated from a wildfire in Pensacola, Florida on Monday.

A wildfire engulfed at least 70 acres of underdeveloped land in the area of Jones Swamp Wetland Preserve and Nature Trail.

According to Escambia County officials, more than 90 percent of the fire has been contained and no property damage or injuries have been reported.

Forestry officials say it would have been worse if the fire wasn’t moving towards deeper into the swamp and away from the neighborhood.

Videos were taken by Fil-Am Paul Garilao as he and his family were evacuating their home in Pensacola.

“Medyo kumalat na yung apoy at napakalakas ang pagkalat ng apoy sa lugar na yon kaya nagstay muna kami sa aming pastor, sa Fil-Am Baptist church, siniguradong ligtas yung family.”
