SAN DIEGO – Fight night is just a few days away and Filipino boxer Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta is ready for his debut on Fox Sports.

“Sa ngayon, maganda ang nararamdaman ang training namin, at tsaka I feel really good and confident,” said Gesta. “Yung weight ko na lang.”

Gesta will fight Mexican Luis Arceo in a bout that will take place in San Francisco’s Longshoremen’s Hall, a fight card co-promoted by Paco Presents and Golden Boy.

“I don’t want to underestimate this guy. I will do my best in there,” Gesta said. “This guy is a veteran guy.”

A former top lightweight contender, the once-undefeated Gesta is now fighting his way back into contention after a 16-month absence that followed his first career loss, injuries, and Top Rank’s termination of his contract.

Gesta returned to action last April with a big knockout win in San Diego. He said having his dad as his chief trainer and the support of the Filipinos in his adopted home has helped keep him motivated as he chases his first world title.

“They’re real fans, here in San Diego,” he said. “I’m really happy that they support me. That gives me more confidence to go in the ring.”

Gesta made several trips to the Wild Card Gym for sparring sessions, where he reunited with his old training partner Michael Farenas, who just scored a thrilling nationally televised knockout victory earlier this month.

Gesta last fought in San Francisco three years ago.
