LAS VEGAS — A heartbreak of a loss for Carlo Biado, as he collapsed in the final stretch of the finals of the WPA Players Championships in Las Vegas on Friday.
Seemingly cruising to victory, as he got on the hill with one rack to get for the win at 8 – 5 in a race to 9, his opponent Taiwan’s Kevin Cheng rallied back and took the next four racks to go head 9 – 8.
The lead went back and forth until they were tied again at 11-all, and the match went to sudden death overtime in one final rack.
A costly error by Biado in the 23rd rack gave the opening to Cheng, who hit a crucial shot on the 3 ball that paved the way for a runout and take the win at 12 – 11.
Biado settles for 2nd place and $7,000, or P370,000.
The 2017 World 9-ball champion and World #3 though has a chance at the redemption when the U.S. Open kicks off next week, also to be hosted in Vegas.
