Filipino athletes, celebrities play Santa’s helpers at SIPA toy giveaway

LOS ANGELES —  A WWE superstar, UFC ring girl, and a handful of musicians, actors, and YouTubers played Santa’s helpers in Historic Filipinotown, spreading some cheer at the Search to Involve Pilipino American (SIPA)’s annual toy drive.

The day-long festivity treated neighborhood families to an ube pancake breakfast, performances, haircuts, and of course Christmas presents.

“We want to celebrate and give back to the community, that’s what we do I hope they enjoy everything but we have the pancakes going and the coffee the music and the presents and this is what they really came for I think,” said exec. director Dorothy Gamoning.

Rapper P-Lo, actor Carlin James, YouTubers and musicians like Lianne V and Mix Talents, all enjoyed the day handing out these wrapped presents that were donated by other non-profit groups, big businesses, and individual donors.

Fil-Am UFC ring girl Arianny Celeste surprised audiences with her singing talents.

For professional wrestler Mega TJ Perkins, the chance to brighten some holidays in the low income community hit close to home.

As he was chasing his WWE dreams, he’d been homeless in Florida. As he worked his way up the independent ranks, he’s even wrestled in small community centers, not far from SIPA’s building.

Many of the children left with fresh haircuts, and huge smiles that say it all.
