REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – The California Highway Patrol has identified a Filipino woman as one of two people killed Tuesday morning when a Greyhound bus they were riding in overturned on the highway.
Fyle Oliveras, 51, was reportedly returning to the San Francisco Bay Area after visiting her sons in Los Angeles. According to reports, she was a resident of San Francisco and had recently immigrated from the Philippines.
The bus was headed to San Jose from Los Angeles when it overturned on northbound Highway 101 in San Jose. Twenty passengers and the driver were reported on board when the crash occurred.
Oliveras and another woman were killed in the crash while 18 others were reported to have suffered injuries. At least nine of the injured passengers were taken to local hospitals. The driver was reported to have minor injuries.
The crash scene blocked several lanes on the busy highway during the rainy Tuesday morning commute.
The National Transportation Safety Board has opened a federal investigation into the fatal accident.
