ALBERTA, CALGARY — A Philippine-born Canadian was recently appointed as one of the country’s newest judges.
Justice L. Bernette Ho of the court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta was sworn-in on May 25th.
Ho, who is of Chinese descent, migrated with her family to Canada from the Philippines in 1971 and studied law at the University of Alberta.
According to the Philippine consulate general in Calgary, Ho is the first Philippine-born Canadian to hold a high judicial position.
Ho joins a number of other Filipino Canadian judges in the country, including Judge Steve Anthony Coroza of the superior court of justice of Ontario, as well as Milagros Eustaquio – Sime, a justice of the peace in Ontario.
