NEW YORK CITY — CBS 2 reporter Hazel Sanchez is among this year’s Distinguished Filipino Women Honorees at the Philippine Consulate in NYC.
“My parents knew that it wasn’t a career maker but a career breaker,” Sanchez shared. “They wanted me to be a doctor or a lawyer, any sure thing.”
Today, this “brown girl” is an Emmy award-winning journalist, whose achievements as a distinguished Filipino woman was recognized by the Filipino community.
“This is a story that I think is not just my story, but the story of so many Filipinos.”
Sanchez has been credited to have helped opened the doors for other Asian Americans in the broadcast industry.
She continues to report for CBS 2, telling stories that matter.
