LONG BEACH, CA — Filipina Emerald Gutierrez is on a mission to help her fiancée, Eric Early, win his congressional bid for California’s 28th District.
And for the next few months, she has her hands full — from taking pictures, scheduling meetings, and attending events, she’s on full campaign mode.
“I’m a mom so it’s just a balance. We don’t think about it, we just do it.”
Early, a Republican who ran for Attorney General last year, is looking to unseat Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff, the Intelligence Committee chairman and leader of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.
And he didn’t mince words when it comes to Schiff.
“It’s time to send him into retirement, the guy hasn’t done anything for the district in 20 years, and I quite frankly think he’s delusional in addition to being a liar.”
California’s 28th District includes parts of Los Angeles, Burbank, and Glendale, areas with Filipino communities, that the Subic-born Gutierrez, a nurse, hopes to reach out to.
“Emerald is the most incredible support system for somebody who’s running for office//Emerald was behind me every step of the way, and she is in this campaign too. Emerald is incredible. I couldn’t do this without her. The community should be proud of Emerald.”
Early is gearing up for March’s primary election, hoping to make the November ballot.
And his fiancée plans to be there every step of the way — for better or for worse.
