REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – The Filipino nurse who was one of the accused in molesting a 98-year-old stroke patient in San Diego, Calif. in 2011, was found to be working illegally in British Columbia, Canada when he was arrested two weeks ago.

At a hearing with Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Board on Monday, it emerged that Russel Torralba had been working for $175 a day without a work permit as a caregiver for a young boy with disabilities.

The violation bars Torralba from Canada for one year. But border security officials say they will take into consideration Torralba’s sex assault charges in San Diego during his deportation hearing set for Feb. 3.

Torralba is wanted in California after he and another Filipino nurse, Alfredo Ruiz, were caught on a surveillance camera molesting a patient.

Both Torralba and Ruiz have been charged with felony elder neglect and felony lewd conduct by a caregiver on a dependent adult.
