REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Filipino-American contestant Malaya Watson sang her way into the top 13 in the 13th season of the hit television show “American Idol”.
Sixteen-year-old Watson sang her rendition of “Hard Times” by Ray Charles.
“American Idol” judges gave Watson positive remarks as she advances to the top 13. Viewers predict she will make it to top five.
Meanwhile, FilAm music superstar Apl.de.ap is looking to amplify the music and culture of South East Asia with his new music label.
The Blackeyed Peas rapper calls his new label BMBX (pronounced Boom Box).
The first band signed to the new label is Filipino metal-core group Slapshot.
Slapshot’s first single with BMBX, together with the Apl.de.ap Foundation is called “Unshakable”. The song pays tribute to the resilience of the Philippines after Typhoon Yolanda.
