LAS VEGAS – Richard Magdayo Dahan, the Filipino who confessed to killing his wife, Daisy, last week, appeared in court yesterday.

The judge asked for a Tagalog interpreter for Richard, who is facing a charge of murder with a deadly weapon. Having a court interpreter is provided for the accused party, if the party’s native language is not English.

When asked if he can hire an attorney instead of being represented by a public defender, Richard said he could not afford a lawyer.

While waiting for his next court date on February 3, Richard will remain detained at the Clark County Detention Center, with no bail set.

Daisy’s friends and co-workers are determined to seek justice for the 28-year old Filipina, who worked as a certified nursing assistant.

“I want him to get the death penalty. I don’t want him to sit in prison for 20 years, eat three meals a day and waste tax-payers’ money. I want him to die,” Jacqueline Hagens, Daisy’s co-worker expressed.

Daisy’s friends confirmed that Daisy was a victim of domestic violence. Because of fear, they said Daisy stayed married with Richard, despite his abuses. Her family lives in Davao Oriental and she had no relatives in the Las Vegas Valley.

“He would threaten her, that if she left him, he would hunt her down and even kill her family. She was terrified,” Maria Antero, friend of Daisy, shared.

Hagens added, “I knew about some problems she had but I did not know the severity of what he was doing. He was a monster. And she hid it well from me.”

Daisy’s friends are asking help from the Filipino community so they can send her remains to the Philippines. Her body is still in the mortuary and they said Daisy’s family wants nothing more than to have her remains brought home.

Richard Dahan should get the capital punishment, “the death penalty” for brutally murdering his wife.

i totally agree with you. this sub-human was born a killer, scariest to carry out his demonic crime to a defenseless woman, he did once love. america’s legal system have more protection for the criminals than the victim itself, that this killer may not get the death penalty, based on the fact he self reported his own crime, if he has no previous felonies. This murderous monster either will get the maximum or life for his crime, on the ground he admitted his crime, and saved the state of nevada the expense of trial. Unless his public defender on his findings he snapped, and was crazy or insane during the killing of his wife. this strategy is considered very difficult to win, for one thing testimonies of MD psychiatrists on both side – the defense/the plaintiff nevada will be weighed in by the jury which one is credible. Therefore, if the jury find him guilty, the jury can recommend the death penalty, but if the jury find him really insane during the killing, then he does not get imprisonment, instead will be sent for treatment of his insanity in a confined setting.
