REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – A Filipino American teacher was arrested Wednesday after Richmond police learned that he continued to work at a school, even while being investigated or sexually abusing students.
Officials at the West Contra Costa County School District said they saw no red flags when they hired 32-year-old Ron Guinto of Vallejo as a 7th grade teacher at Richmond’s Mira Vista Elementary in December.
Guinto’s current employers admitted they were not aware that police had been investigating him after he was fired last fall from Richmond’s Making Waves Academy over allegations that he molested several boys.
Police arrested Guinto on Wednesday after learning of his latest elementary school teaching job.
He faces 11 counts of lewd acts with a child under 14, two counts of forced oral copulation, and one count of assault with intent to commit sodomy.
A school district spokesperson said the district plans to revisit its hiring protocol.
And he likes explaining Catechism to his victims.
