Fil-Ams weigh in on Hillary Clinton’s bid for the White House

NEW YORK CITY — Democratic front runner Hillary Clinton took the stage in New York City’s Roosevelt Island Saturday, to officially launch her campaign for the White House.

“To be here in this beautiful park dedicated to Franklin Roosevelt’s enduring vision of America, the nation we want to be. And in a place with absolutely no ceilings.” she said.

With more than 5,500 supporters gathered at the Four Freedoms Park, the former Secretary of State vowed to champion everyday Americans. She says prosperity and democracy are not just for the rich.

Clinton said, “You brought our country back. Now it’s time — your time to secure the gains and move ahead. And, you know what? America can’t succeed unless you succeed. That is why I am running for president of the United States.”

She fired shots against Republican presidential contenders on issues such as minimum wage, equal pay, affordable healthcare, voting rights, immigration rights, and LGBTQ rights.

“They want to take away health insurance for more than 16 million Americans without any credible alternative. They shame and blame women rather than respect our right to make the own reproductive health decisions,” she said. “They want to put immigrants who work hard and pay taxes at risk of deportation and they turn their backs on gay people who love each other.

One Fil-Am supporter and her partner said Clinton’s message resonates well with the LGBT community.

Dean Opriasa said, “First possible woman president — we’re here for her.”

Another Fil-Am supporter said Clinton touched on issues that are very important to Americans and to himself.

Charles Ferrer of Bergenfield, N.J. said, “Especially with education, fighting climate change in the global warming world, fighting for the everyday American, whether it’s economically or creating equality for all.”

Meantime, a small group of “Stop Hillary” Republicans protested outside Clinton’s event.

Republican National Committee’s Fil-AM spokesperson Nino Fetalvo said, “She attempted to reset her campaign many times, but this can’t erase her failed records.”

Despite the Benghazi accusations, email scandals and other issues, Clinton says she’s prepared for the long fight ahead.

“It’s no secret that we’re going up against some pretty powerful forces that will do and spend whatever it takes. But I’ve spent my life fighting for children, families, and our country, and I’m not stopping now.” Clinton said.

After making her case for 2016 by vowing to champion everyday Americans, Clinton will be making her way to primaries and caucuses across the US as her presidential campaign officially starts.
