Fil-Am veteran attacked in San Francisco

A Filipino American veteran was attacked in San Francisco earlier in March, adding another incident to the growing list of racially motivated assaults on the Asian American community.

Ron Tuason, 56, told KPIX 5 he was waiting at a bus stop at Plymouth and Ocean Avenues on March 13 when a man yelled racial insults and punched him multiple times.

Tuason said he was assaulted for wearing a veteran’s hat.

He also shared that the attacker told him to go back where he came from and accused him of causing the COVID-19 pandemic.

San Francisco police reportedly located a suspect shortly after the assault. The suspect, 53-year-old Victor Brown, was arrested for assault, battery with the hate crime enhancement, and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.
