Fil-Am teen in coma after assault near Bay Area mall

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – A 17-year old Filipino American remains in critical condition at a local hospital after he was assaulted by two men in a parking lot near Westfield Valley Fair Mall last Wednesday.

A hospital spokesperson says Christian Rasner’s vital signs are still unstable. He is in a drug-induced coma.

Authorities say the junior honor student was hanging out at the mall with a friend when two men approached him and asked him if he was affiliated with gangs.

Christian’s father Greg says his son told the men he had no gang ties, but they still beat him up and left him with serious head injuries.

Christian’s mother Maria is from Cebu City.

A account has been set up for Christian. So far, more than $4,000 have been raised.

Anyone with information about the case can contact San Jose police at 408-277-4161.
