REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Filipino-American students at a Seattle university where a deadly shooting rampage occurred on Thursday say they were shaken by the incident.

The suspect, Aaron Ybarra, went on a shooting rampage inside Seattle Pacific University’s Otto Miller Hall. One shooting victim was killed while three others were injured.

Police say student building monitor Jon Meis subdued Ybarra with pepper spray in the foyer of the building. Several other students helped to pin him down until police officers arrived.

A member of Seattle Pacific University’s Filipino-American Student Association, who requested not to be identified, confirmed in an email to Balitang America that there were a few Fil-Am students in the building at the time of the shooting.

The FASA member wrote that fellow members “have been hurt and shaken by the event” and that “the school is helping them find peace.”

Students and the community of Seattle Pacific University gathered at the campus church Thurday night to grieve and pray for those affected by the event.

The suspect is currently detained pending investigation of murder.
