Fil-Am restaurant owner sentenced to six months in jail for wage theft

A Filipina restaurant owner from Port Chester, New York could go to jail for six months, unless she pays back stolen wages from her former employees by June.

Elisa Parto, owner of Elisa’s Food & Plus, was just sentenced to six months in jail for stealing wages from six former employees — worth $47,000 — the state attorney general’s office announced.

Officials say she cheated those employees out of their proper wages between 2012 and 2014.

Parto has reportedly paid back $21,000 of that amount — but she still has to pay back the remaining $26,000 by June 5.

If she fails to do so, she will have to begin her jail sentence. She’s not in custody at the moment.

Parto pleaded guilty to wage theft in December 2015.

The plea agreement required her to pay back those wages.
