Filipino nurses joined a massive rally in Sacramento, CA, where they called for the passage of a bill that would make the state the first in the country to launch a single-payer health care system.
A single-payer healthcare is one in which the state, rather than private insurers, pays for all healthcare costs.
Critics say the demand will become almost unlimited, and state officials could have a hard time setting limits on what will be provided.
However, supporters of the measure say it’s about time California takes the lead — especially when the country’s Affordable Care Act is at great risk of being repealed and replaced in an overhaul under the Trump administration.
