NEW YORK – A 20-year-old Filipina was mugged and slashed across her face as she prevented her attacker from taking her cellphone in the Bronx on Friday.
On her Facebook page, Paula Nicolie delos Santos said she was walking home around midnight when a man she described as 5’5″ to 5’6″, Hispanic male in his 30’s, wearing a beanie, attacked her.
Using a knife or a box cutter, the attacker slashed her on the face then kicked her on the face, she said.
She fell to the ground. The suspect then grabbed her bag containing an identification card, debit or credit cards, $25 cash and other personal belongings.
The psychology student at City University of New York, who was just four doors away from home, was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where she received 26 stitches.
She posted a warning on Facebook saying “Be careful walking alone in the evening especially with your belongings out.”
She said she’s always read and heard about stories and never thought she would experience it herself.
She also said “be careful and always be aware of your surroundings.”
The unknown attacker remained at large.
