REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – More impeachment complaints are being filed against President Benigno Aquino III over the disbursement acceleration program that was deemed unconstitutional by the Philippine Supreme Court.

Kabataan Partylist Rep. Terry Ridon endorsed the impeachment complaint on grounds of betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the constitution, and graft and corruption.

It is the second impeachment complaint endorsed by a member of the House of Representatives.

Ridon says the impeachment move does not accuse President Aquino of pocketing DAP funds, but questions his decision to distribute government funds to agencies and allies in Congress.

The complaint has been filed to the records offices of the House of Representatives and is expected to be taken up by Congress when it resumes sessions on July 28.

Ninety six votes are required from members of the lower House of Congress to impeach Aquino.

Loida Nicolas Lewis of US Filipinos for Good Governance told Balitang America she believes the impeachment complaint is pure distraction.

“They are out of line. It’s meant to distract so that the focus of the people will be diverted from the real thieves to this arbitrary and groundless impeachment move by the left,” she said.
