Fil-Am groups win grants from Super Bowl host committee

SAN FRANCISCO – “To make Super Bowl 50 the most philanthropic and giving super bowl ever”

This is the goal of the 50 Fund which is the legacy fund of the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee which has already raised a total of $5.2 million in grants.

The Host Committee will grant 50 non-profit organizations a share of $410,000 in playmaker grants, aimed to help each group in its community work.

Filipino-American Rudy Corpuz’s youth program United Playaz was selected to receive a playmaker grant because of its on-going mission to prevent violence and criminal activity in the South of Market neighborhood, an area home to many Filipinos in San Francisco.

Another Fil-Am being honored by the Host Committee is college student Patricia Manubay for her project Dream Boxes, which packs hope and encouragement wrapped into beautiful boxes for kids in need.

Manubay says she will use the grant money to empower more people to give back to their communities.
