SAN FRANCISCO — It didn’t matter if you were a kid or an adult, if you were at the latest Undiscovered SF, you would see a showcase of dance moves — all motivated by the talent of famed Filipino-American DJ Miles Medina.
Medina — a Bay Area native — says that he is happy to represent for the Filipino community.
“There’s a thing about Filipino DJs, especially from the Bay Area,” said Miles Medina. “There’s a weird, known thing to everybody, like worldwide.”
Medina showcases his skills at the recent Undiscovered SF, a monthly Filipino night market, and shares his thoughts on Filipinos making their mark in hip-hop.
Last year, Medina was the winner of the 2017 Goldie Award DJ battle which was held by world renowned DJ and producer — A-Trak.
He adds that hip-hop for the Fil-Am generation came naturally.
“It’s just the perfect music for us. There’s a lot of soul. There’s a lot of new age stuff. Hip-hop is obviously not that old, so you’re taking new ideas of music and blending it together.”
Medina says he is happy that Undiscovered SF is providing a platform for not just himself but for other Filipino artists and entrepreneurs.
