LOS ANGELES – It’s a scene straight out a Philippine beach resort but this is Los Angeles and its annual fashion week where designers unveil next year’s summer and spring styles.
Fil-Am Jenine Nerecina, also known as Cosmosgyral, brought out her 17-piece set to LA’s fashion week.
“I was so nervous but at the end of the day I was really happy to show my first collection,” said Nerecina.
The Caienta-born designer brought out her Filipino twist on the runway using piña fiber on several of her pieces.
“I brought it here just to make it a little bit more modern, make it a little more evening and just to bring something new to something more classic especially in our culture,” said Nerecina.
Cosmogyral moved to the U.S. at age 10 but she found her passion for fashion as a young girl in the Philippines.
“When I lived there I was with my grandparents,” said Nerecina, “We we’re away a lot so my yaya taught me. My yaya and my grandma taught me how to sew and I kind of took that sewing hobby to the next level.”
With an LA fashion week debut under her belt Nerecina will continue showcasing her latest designs at local fashion galleries.
