Fil-Am Congressman TJ Cox joins nationwide calls to end opioid abuse

Fil-Am California Congressman TJ Cox joined the calls to end opioid abuse, as social media giant Facebook launched its stop opioid silence campaign on Tuesday.

Rep. TJ Cox – Stop Opioid Silence (SOS)

One in two Americans know someone impacted by opioids. In 2017 alone close to two thousand two hundred Californians tragically died of an opioid overdose. In the Central Valley, fentanyl and methamphetamine are excessively abused and it’s our rural communities that are being disproportionately impacted. We must work to reduce the stigma of all drug dependencies. We must educate and train more providers in our rural communities and throughout our nation.Together, we can end the stigma and crisis of opioid addiction — by sharing our stories. If you or someone you know is struggling, break the silence and call 1-877-268-2787 for support. Together we can make a difference. #StopOpioidSilence

“The fact is opioids kill more people than car accidents. And across the country, every 11 minutes, opioids claim another American life,” he says in a Facebook video.

Facebook teamed up with the Partnership for Drug Free Kids and Center on Addiction to build the anti-stigma campaign.

It hopes to reach people struggling with opioid addiction to remind them that they are not alone and encourage them to share their stories.

Cox said in 2017 alone, close to two thousand two hundred Californians died of an opioid overdose.
