REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Utah’s Filipino-American Attorney General, Sean Reyes, says he has a sworn duty to defend the State’s ban on same-sex marriage, and he’s going straight to the Supreme Court to do it.

Last week, Reyes’ office announced that it will challenge last month’s 10th Circuit Court of Appeals’ ruling that declared Utah’s same-sex marriage ban unconstitutional. It was the first time a Federal Appeals Court ruled on the issue.

Reyes’ office said it hopes to get clarity and resolution from the highest court, and will file its bid to revive the State’s same-sex marriage ban in the coming weeks.

But there’s no guarantee the Supreme Court will hear it. At least 4 of the 9 Supreme Court Justices must vote to hear the case.
