Fil-Am graffiti artist shares loving message in World Trade Center art

Concrete canvasses at the World Trade Center complex are not just pretty to look at – but each comes with positive, artistic messages.

“I wanted to impact people in a positive way through art, especially the medium, graffiti,” says Filipino visual artist AJ Lavilla. “It was perceived as something negative before, but I feel like if you use it in a positive way, you could impact a lot of people.”

Lavilla’s dream project is to take his character around the world – a girl with a message to “dream big” – inspired by real-life street children in the Philippines, who inspired him to dream big when he was at his lowest point in his art career.

“My work is about dream big, I wanna inspire the next generation, you know, anyone, anybody that is chasing their dreams, go after it.”
