Fil-Am artist partners with Nike to highlight the first generation immigrant experience through art and sneakers

NEW YORK — This $180 limited “Nike AirMax 270 react” tells the story of this first-generation Filipino American.

Rich Tu – vice president of digital design for MTV, VH1, CMT and Logo is among 28 New Yorkers chosen by Nike to celebrate the Big Apple’s energy, diversity and creativity.

The “Nike by You” project is a platform for creatives like Tu to tell their stories using Nike’s iconic sneakers as their canvasses.

“I am a first-generation Filipino American, my parents came here in the 60’s, and I also host a podcast called: First Generation Burden, which is meant to highlight the immigrant voice through conversation,” Tu says.

This limited edition first-gen Nike AirMax 270 React is available on Nike only, until September 1st.

Proceeds from Tu’s first-gen Nike AirMax will go to the American Civil Liberties Union to help in the group’s ongoing fight for immigrant rights.
