REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – The marriage equality movement celebrated another victory as the Supreme Court clears the way for same-sex marriage in five states, including Utah, where a Filipino-America Attorney General led the charge to uphold his state’s ban.
The high court rejected appeals from Utah, Oklahoma, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Indiana.
The states asked the court to review their bans on same-sex marriage after Federal Appeals Court judges ruled them unconstitutional.
The move would also invalidate similar bans in six other states.
Despite vowing to defend his state’s ban on same-sex marriage, Utah’s Fil-Am Attorney General Sean Reyes said, “It’s time for people of goodwill on both sides of the issue to come together now and heal any rifts.”
