Fiji health ministry: Cause of deaths for Texas Filipina and husband could take weeks, possibly longer

A fatal tragedy involving the mysterious deaths of a Texas Filipina and her husband, during a vacation in Fiji last month.

Fiji’s health ministry said it could take weeks, “possibly longer,” to really determine the causes of death — for 35-year old Michelle Kalanog Paul and her husband, 37-year-old David Paul.

The couple were vacationing in Fiji when they suddenly suffered from diarrhea, vomiting and numbness. Michelle died first while David died two days later.

The Fiji ministry of health and medical services said this investigation is a priority. For now, authorities have ruled out influenza.

Tissue samples were sent to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta for testing.
