SAN FRANCISCO – Music, games, and food – all while shared with great company.
That is what these Filipino seniors enjoyed during the first annual Christmas celebration held in partnership between the Philippine Consulate and the Pilipino Senior Resource Center (PSRC).
“Most of our seniors here are living alone so it’s very important that we provide happiness and joy especially during the Christmas holidays and we would like to give them the best services ever,” said Cecile Ascalon.
Located in the South of Market district of San Francisco, a neighborhood historically known for its Pinoy population, the PSRC is a non-profit organization serving Filipinos with economic and social needs.
The PSRC also offers free programs such as Filipina breast cancer support services, comprehensive case management, and social activities.
Thanks to the combined efforts of the Philippine Consulate, the seniors said they enjoyed celebrating a Filipino-style Christmas.
“We have a good time here,” said 69-year-old Angie Bagares. “Good food and we have dancing and the music is good. And all my friends are here. It feels like Christmas in the Philippines.”
“Thank you God for giving us this loving day and that we still have strength and thank you for our well-being,” said 90-year-old Aquilino Suarez Delen.
And while they may miss the holidays in the Philippines, these seniors remain full of Christmas cheer.
