EDMONTON, CANADA — Hundreds of kababayans celebrate the annual fiesta at Borden Park.
Now in its 3rd year, the two-day annual festival marks an opportunity to celebrate Filipino culture and heritage.
Census data shows there were 42,760 people in the city identifying Filipino in 2011 — a number that has jumped to 60,175 in the 2016 census.
According to Statistics Canada Tagalog is one of the top unofficial languages in Alberta, and is the fastest growing language in the country.
The provincial government said Alberta is now home to 175,000 Filipinos.
