Drug bust in NY leads to arrest of 3 Filipinos

QUEENS, NY — The latest on a New York drug bust led to the arrest of three kababayans. While two remain in jail, one has been released last Saturday after posting a $50,000 bail.

Now some Filipino community members there say that despite the arrests, the area’s illegal drug trade continues to persist as a problem for the heavily-Filipino neighborhood.

Josephine Paguio — one of the three Filipinos arrested and charged with first degree criminal possession of a controlled substance — was released Saturday, after posting a $50,000 bail.

Paguio, her 56-year-old boyfriend Alex Herrera and 45-year-old Marilyn Castro, were among those rounded up in an early morning drug bust in Woodside on June 28.
The NYPD’s 6am raid at this home recovered 138 bags, plus seven jars of crystal meth or shabu, 11 bags of marijuana, two bags of psychedelic mushrooms, and 79 oxycodone pills, among many other highly addictive prescription medicines.

Police also recovered ammunition for a firearm.
