LOS ANGELES — Flyweight champion Donnie Ahas Nietes kicked off his training camp at the Wild Card Gym this week, in preparation for next month’s IBF flyweight title defense against former champion Juan Carlos Reveco of Argentina.
This will be the third US fight for Nietes, who’s hasn’t lost in 14 years.
Nietes will be part of 360 promotions’ Superfly 2 card featuring three world title matches in the fly divisions.
His Argentinian challenger is 39-and 3 and is riding a three-fight winning streak, and this will be his first US fight.
“Sa tingin ko magaling sya kalaban kasi 2-Times world champion din so hindi ako talaga maging compyensa bigay ko talaga lahat kagayan ko at sisikapan ko dedefensean ko Corona.”
Helping Ahas train is another Filipino fighting on the same Card, Brian Viloria.
The Hawaiian Punch will be gunning for his 5th world title on the same night.
Both fighters sparred a total of 6 rounds each on Tuesday, facing each other for three rounds.
“Masaya masaya kasi naka balik ako mag training dito and siempre masaya din ako kasi nakatulong din ako kay Brian. Katulong sya sa akin mag sparring so nag tutulongnan kami Sa bawat Isa ngayon. Excited na ako paki mag Laban.”
“You gotta be with best, train with the best if you wanna be the best. and Donnie is a great fighter he’s a great championship himself. It’s a great feeling to be able to work with a champion like Donnie,” said Viloria.
After their sparring session, they greeted another Wild Card-based Filipino fighter–Mercito Gesta, who fights for his first world title this weekend.
