LAS VEGAS, Nevada – The countdown to the Pagara-Juarez showdown has begun and Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire warned “Prince” Albert Pagara about Cesar Juarez’s strength in the ring.
Donaire certainly knows what he’s talking about after slugging it out against Juarez in December 2015.
“He is very tough but hindi naman siya ganun kagaling. Matapang lang talaga at matibay. Sugod ng sugod ‘yun ang talagang alam niya is to go in front and just take the fight [to you],” he said.
Donaire knocked Juarez down twice in the fourth round and won via unanimous decision to reclaim the WBO junior featherweight title.
“I was very surprised kasi… ‘pag sinusuntok ko siya he just takes it. I’ve never faced anyone na ganun katapang,” said Donaire.
Donare added that Pagara should watch out for Juarez’s volume punches.
“’Pag napapagod ka niya dun mo na ma fi-feel ‘yung lakas ng suntok, pero hindi naman ganun kalakas. He is a volume puncher at papagurin ka niya,” he said.
Donaire, who sparred with Pagara, said the Filipino needs to work on his defense since Juarez is a strong fighter.
But he believes Pagara can put Juarez to the canvass.
“Pagara is very promising. Pagara has a lot of future looking at him. He is a very capable fighter,” Donaire said.
“’Yung advantage malaki din si Pagara, matangkad din at malakas. ‘Yun lang, distanya lang. Let Juarez come in because I know malakas din si Pagara,” he said.
Donaire said Juarez’s boxing style is tailor-fit for Pagara.
“Actually I feel make-KO niya si Juarez. I feel it, nakita ko ‘yung potential ni Pagara. Alam ko malakas si Pagara. Siya ‘yung a few of the ALA fighters na nag eensayo ng husto so alam ko na reading ready na siya sa laban with Juarez.”
“Kung hindi mapapagod ni Juarez si Pagara, makukuha ni Pagara ang knock out [win].”
The Pagara-Juarez showdown will take place in San Mateo, California and will air on the ABS-CBN Sports and Action.
