LAS VEGAS, Nevada — After a stunning loss to Guillermo Rigondeaux, Nonito Donaire is now gearing up for another role outside the boxing ring — as a new dad.

The boxer’s wife Rachel is expected to give birth next month to a baby boy.

“’Pag nasa gym ako ibinibigay ko lahat ng makakaya ng katawan ko so kung magagawa ko ‘yun sa gym e ‘di magawa ko rin lahat para sa baby ko,” the “Filipino Flash” said.

“We are praying for normal, just regular delivery, hoping we don’t have to do C sections or anything. Pero lahat ng test the test I’ve done has been low risk they said. I don’t have any complications for normal delivery,” Rachel added.

Donaire said the Rigondeaux fight taught him to be 100-percent focused.

The boxer is still recuperating from a shoulder surgery and is enjoying taking time off.

“Sabi ng doctor ko I’m actually healing really fast. Sabi ng doctor it’s good wala namang problema nachambahan lang it happens,” he reported.

With regards to the Rigondeaux fight, he said he learned from his mistakes.

“Kailangan ko ng 100-percent focus kasi alam ko wala akong focus dun not only sa injury ko and sa baby ko. Kasi for me excited na excited ako sa baby ko, tsaka weight issues. So aakyat ako ng timbang. For now, ang natutunan ko lang talaga is to focus,” he said.

Donaire excitedly showed ABS-CBN the baby room in his new seven-bedroom house he bought last year.

He said the house is their dream home and indeed the fruit of his boxing labor.

HBO boxing commentator and former WBC champion Roy Jones, Jr. said that in boxing, you cannot always have a winning streak.

But with Donaire’s talent in the ring, he will bounce back.

“I love everything about him. He is like a little brother to me. He always look up to me. He always performs just like I wanted to. I understand you go through ups and downs, we all go through that. That’s how we become strong. Just like I said to be a person who listens like when I talk to him,” said Jones.

At this time, Top Rank said Donaire is not scheduled to fight, but is looking at a date range of October or November to make his return to the ring.
