Deportations reach record high under Obama

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – He’s been criticized for being the “deporter in chief”, and now a new report reveals that more than two million immigrants were deported under President Barack Obama’s administration.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, 438,421 deportations were carried out by the Obama administration in 2013.

About 198,000 of those were migrants with criminal records, while some 240,000 had no criminal records.

The majority of the deportations, 72 percent, were migrants from Mexico and a significant number were from Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador.

The report comes even as nearly 600,000 undocumented youth were given relief since from deportation since 2012 under Obama’s deferred action for childhood arrivals program or DACA.
