Democrat leaders react to Trump’s State of the Union

WASHINGTON DC — President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech began with a call to unify a politically-divided Congress and a highly polarized nation.

“We must choose between greatness or gridlock, results or resistance, vision or vengeance, incredible progress or pointless destruction. Tonight, I ask you to choose greatness.”

But the question is, can Trump’s annual olive branch break what he calls a political stalemate?

Not quite so, according to Jersey City Democratic council president Rolando Lavarro, “the president has no intention of achieving unity.”

With a Democratic-controlled house, Democrats believe that checks and balances to the Trump administration has been restored – and that’s something the president now has to get used to.
