REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Police were called after workers at a recycling center in Brooks, Oregon found the some skulls in a cardboard box.

According to medical examiners, the skulls belonged to the late Frank Shriver, an Oregon man who went to the Philippines in 1941 to search for gold.

Shriver’s family said they did not know how or why he got them, and how they ended up in the recycling box.

The skulls will be studied by a forensic anthropologist, who will then turn them over to the Oregon State Medical Examiner.
