Darchinyan vows revenge vs Donaire

MANILA – Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. rose to boxing fame in 2007 by pulling off a shocking upset over a more established champion Vic Darchinyan.

Darchinyan said he will get his revenge when they meet again on November 9 in Houston, Texas.

“Six years ago I lost to Nonito Donaire. Nobody knew about him then,”

Darchinyan said during a press conference announcing their fight. “I made him, I’m gonna break him.”

In their first meeting, Donaire came in as a 7–1 underdog against Darchinyan, who underestimated the Filipino Flash.

Donaire caught Darchinyan with a left hook to the face, knocking out the Armenian in the fifth round. As a result, the Filipino Flash walked away with the IBF and IBO flyweight titles. Darchinyan bared his bitterness over the loss during their press conference in Corpus Christi, Texas.

“I will destroy you,” he told Donaire, to which the Filipino fired back: “If you say you will destroy me, I say likewise. I will destroy you ten-fold.”

The Filipino Flash said he thought Darchinyan had already moved on since his defeat.

“I expect as much from Darchinyan. I thought age would subside a little bit of hatred, but apparently not. For that 6 years, I’ve taken everything away from him, everything he has worked for all his life, so that’s why I look forward to this fight.

The 12-round, non-title bout will serve as Donaire’s comeback since losing the WBO super bantamweight crown to Guillermo Rigondeaux last April.
