Nature is bringing and an icy start to the new year in South Texas, where residents are ill prepared for sub freezing temperatures.
As Houstonians returned to work this week after the holiday break, they were greeted with bitter cold and sleet.
Thousands of cars were on the streets as pockets of sleet moved through the Houston area. The icy pellets accumulated on grass and elevated surfaces, such as bridges and overpasses.
With temperatures well below freezing, The National Weather Service issued a hard freeze warning for most of Southeast Texas through Wednesday morning.
