Cyber-extortion scam originating from the Philippines targets Canadian residents

In the Canadian city of Delta, British Columbia, police are warning the public about an online extortion scam based in the Philippines.

A number of Delta residents have been targeted by the scam, where teenage males are contacted through social media, and an online relationship is initiated via messaging apps with free video call features.

The exchange includes the female partially undressing herself in the calls, and asking potential victims to do the same.

Complainants say the female then demands $1500 from the man and asks this to be deposited through money transfer, or threatens to post their video to social media.

None of the victims have provided money, and so far an investigation by the police showed the calls originating from the Philippines.
