ALBERTA, CA — A meat processing plant was greatly affected by a recent COVID-19 outbreak, where over 800 workers were infected with the virus in a span of weeks. The company employs thousands of temporary foreign workers, many of them Filipinos.
The Alberta government had to shut down the Cargill meat processing plant in High River after a COVID-19 outbreak.
John Egat, one of the very first workers who tested positive for COVID-19, is now on disability leave.
His advice to everyone is not to underestimate COVID-19.
Despite the outbreak, the meat processing plant is planning to reopen on May 4.
