Costco Shooting: Fil-Am Victim’s Remains to be Repatriated This Week

By Troy Espera, ABS CBN North America Bureau

Redwood City, Calif – The body of the Filipina Costco worker who was fatally shot by sheriff deputies in Virgina last month will be sent to the Philippines this week. The Philippine Embassy in Washington DC has assured the family of Mylene de Leon-Scott that it is assisting with the repatriation of her remains.

Ambassador Jose Cuisia Jr. has also extended his condolences and said he hoped that authorities would soon conclude the investigation and release the results.

De Leon-Scott was fatally shot by local sheriffs after she reportedly threatened her co-workers and customers by waving a knife and a pair of scissors.

In a statement released after the incident, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said that De Leon-Scott allegedly refused to heed repeated orders from two responding police officers for her to drop the knife and when she moved towards the two officers, a Taser was used in an attempt to immobilize her but the weapon supposedly failed to deploy. It was at this point that one of the officers fired multiple shots at her. Ms. Scott died at the scene while one of the officers sustained a bullet wound but was later released from the hospital.
