CALIFORNIA — Democratic Congresswoman Jackie Speier hosted a town hall meeting specifically to hear issues and concerns that matter the Bay Area’s Filipino American community.
It is not uncommon when elected leaders hold town halls.
It is uncommon when these leaders hold town halls to deal with issues directly affecting one ethnic community.
This is what Congresswoman Speier is doing with the Filipino community in Daly City.
Speier represents California’s 14th district — which includes Daly City, along with much of the peninsula.
She has been vocal in opposition to President Rodrigo Duterte’s drug war, and attacks on Philippine political leaders such as senator Leila de Lima.
