Congressional candidate Gina Ortiz Jones get support from Fil-Am voters

SAN FRANCISCO —  Fil-Am Democratic congressional candidate, Gina Ortiz Jones, recently made a trip to San Francisco, but not a leisurely tourist trip.

Jones was in town to speak to over two dozen Filipinos in a special fundraiser.

Jones will be once again running to represent the 23rd congressional district in Texas.

She nearly won the seat in one of the closest races in the 2018 elections — losing to Republican incumbent William Hurd by only 926 votes.

Jones says she is more motivated to win.

“Despite being massively outspent the fact hat we came that close shows that our message resonates our vision, my desire to make sure that we have more healthcare, not less. Making sure that everyone has access to opportunities, the same ones that allowed me to grow up healthy, get an education, and serve our country. I look forward to protecting those for the next generation of Americans.”

The 23rd congressional district of Texas stretches from San Antonio to El Paso, where last month was the site of one of the deadliest mass shootings in modern U.S. history.

As an Air Force intelligence officer who served in Iraq, Jones wants stricter gun control.

Jones says she disagrees with the Trump administration’s policies on immigration.

“Immigration has always been at the core of who we are as a country and it’s always been considered a strength. And so I look forward to making sure that we have common sense policies that ensure that we continue to strengthen our country and replenish the talent that our country needs moving forward.”

President of the U.S. Pinoys for Good Governance Rodel Rodis hosted the fundraiser.

He is confident Jones will win in 2020.

As Jones embarks on another congressional bid, she says she finds strength in her Pinay mother, Victorina Ortiz of Pangasinan.

Jones parting words to her fellow Filipinos: she would be honored to be the first Filipina American in Congress — but what’s more important is that she won’t be the last.

According to Fernando Pautin (Retired Navy Veteran and a resident of San Antonio Texas) said that he is having a hard time believing to Jones rhetoric regarding immigration and gun control. Obviously, Americans, FilAms, and the half-this and that Americans, are fed up with all the broken record topic on immigration and gun control. Jones should brain storm better and change her strategies that makes sense.
