Concerned friend says that murdered Texas Filipina chose to stay with abusive husband “out of love”

ARLINGTON, TX — This Texas home was once full of love and promise for 24-year old Alyssa Marie Mejia Rogers, her 66-year old husband, Ed, and their one-year-old son, Zachary.

But on Monday morning, it was the scene of a gruesome crime — an apparent murder-suicide.

Responding to a tip from a family friend, Fort Worth police obtained a warrant to search the Rogers’ home, and found lifeless body of Alyssa — a Pinay from Pangasinan — stashed inside a deep freezer.

Her American husband was found in a bedroom, dead from what authorities called a “self-inflicted gunshot wound”.

A friend that Alyssa called ‘Ate’ spoke to BA on the condition of anonymity. She said Alyssa’s marriage became troubled, even violent.

“Bawat problema nya sa asawa nya hanggang sa na buntis sya sinasabi nya sa akin. At sinasabi din nya sa akin na sinasaktan sya ng asawa nya. So advice ko sa kanya dati nahiwalayan nanya kung sina saktan naman pala sya. Pero ang sagot nya sa akin. Mahal ko sya.”

But Ed had a long history of violence — with police records showing that Alyssa had called for help at least six times. On a separate occasion, ed even pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 2004 over a work dispute at a pool party. After years of abuse and threats, friends of Alyssa feared for her life and pleaded for her to leave Ed.

“Ang sabi nya sa akin mag- fi-file na sya ng divorce. (delete here) ang tanong ko sa kanya desidido na ba sya at kung saan ito humantong ang sabi nya oo at mag-fi-file din sya ng protection order.”

Alyssa also made sure their son was safe. She took Zach to the Philippines recently, and left him there with her family.

“After na bumalik sya, sabi ko sa kanya hwag na syang mag-pakita kay ed dahil may on going divorce sya at may protection order pa.”

But days after she returned to the U.S., Alyssa lost her life.

According to the police tipster, who claimed to be a friend of Ed, Ed told him that he and Alyssa had sex and took a video of it prior to a big fight.

Apparently, Alyssa was threatening to use the sex video as evidence that he violated his protection order.

Thereafter, ed reportedly told the tipster that he and Alyssa had an argument, that he pushed her and she fell and hit her head.

The tipster said that ed even showed him Alyssa’s body that had been inside the freezer for eight days.

Alyssa’s cause of death has yet to be revealed by authorities.

Her devastated friends held a vigil held for Alyssa on Wednesday night and her family is establishing a GoFundMe page to help return her body, which will be buried in the Philippines.
