REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – A pregnant Filipino who faced removal proceedings for illegally voting in the United States can now stay with her family in Bloomington, Ill.

Elizabeth Keathley came to the United States in 2003 under a spouse visa.

Even though she is not a US citizen, she became a registered voter after a visit to her local Department of Motor Vehicles. She then cast a ballot in the 2006 congressional election.

Later in December she then failed a US citizenship interview when she admitted to voting.

She lost her job, medical insurance, and was placed on removal proceedings.

Last week, the 7th US Circuit Court of Appeals cleared her of wrongdoing and a Department of Justice immigration judge has approved her permanent residence.
