Clinton talks immigrant issues at East LA rally

LOS ANGELES – The California primary is about a month away and Hillary Clinton made a stop in one of the Golden State’s largest immigrant conclaves: East Los Angeles.

Thousands filled the gymnasium at East Los Angeles City College to watch the democratic front runner.

Fil-Am Clinton supporter Theresa De Vera said, “I am totally emotional right now. I am excited. This gives me hope.”

Ruby De Vera added, “We’re all excited! Hillary is it.”

With Donald Trump becoming the presumptive republican presidential nominee Clinton spent the afternoon throwing jabs at the celebrity turned GOP presidential candidate, especially when it came to immigration issues.

“He has pledged in his first days in office to scrap DACA and DAPA and to finalize the designs for a giant wall on the border,” said Clinton. “Well the best way to prevent that from happening is to make sure he never gets near the White House.”

With a large Latino population watching the speech, which landed on the Cinco de Mayo holiday, a majority of Clinton’s speech touched on immigration, including a comprehensive immigration reform bill and to uphold President Barack Obama’s executive orders on immigration.

“We are a great country and part because we are a nation of immigrants,” said Clinton.

At over 300 delegate votes a win in California would put Clinton closer to securing the number of delegates needed for the nomination.

Despite the warm welcome inside the gym activists gathered outside the event. Some cheered for Bernie Sanders, while others criticized Clinton’s political past.
